Antarctica is the coldest and driest and most desolate of the seven continents, and naturally we had to go see it. So we joined 100 other folk and spent ten days on a ship headed south from Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world.

On the third morning we encountered an unscheduled adventure when another cruise ship hit an iceberg and eventually sank. Ours was one of two ships that raced to rescue 154 passengers bobbing around for hours in the coldest waters in the world.

We went to see penguins, and wound up seeing much more.
