In the time of the Gospels, Ephesus was a major population centre in Asia Minor;and it became the location of one of the early Christian Churches in Asia Minor. At one time St Paul was imprisonned there for his faith; his letter to the young church "St Paul's Epistle to the Ephesians" forms part of the Christian Bible; and the town also features in the Book of Revelation as one of the "Seven Churches in Asia (minor)" A few hundred years later the town fell into ruin and remained undiscovered until the twentieth century. Building by building it is now being restored.
