was once the bunk house. It was constructed in the early 1920's & provided room & board to single or married men who wanted to live on the site. If you lived nearby, you could walk home on the weekends. From 4 to 12 men per room would sleep in bunkbeds, sometimes 3 high. An apartment for single management was located at the back of the building. In the early days there were some 80 men working at the plant & 40 of them could be accommodated in the bunkhouse at any given time. In 1945 the average monthly pay cheque was $138, & room & board cost about $1/day. The Visitor Center has a display & orientation area, a small gift shop, a lunch counter, a pioneers programming room on the lower level, & modern public washrooms. However, if you want the 'historic experience', all the outhouses on site are functional & marked ;o)
