Obelisk of Theodosius
Sightseeing in Turkey picture - (Turkish : Dikilitas) The obelisk which was brought in from Egypt was first erected at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor during the reign of Tutmoses III in around 1450 BC. It was then erected to todays place, ie Hippodrome of Constantinople (officially called Sultanahmet Square) in AD 390. Each of its four faces has a single central column of inscription, celebrating the victory of Tutmoses III on the banks of the Euphrates River in 1450 BC.
