In May 2008, I finally made it for the trip to Turkey, a unique country that straddles two continents, Europe and Asia, after a few postponements.

This “cradle of civilization” is truly a captivating country to visit, with its dazzling historical and archaeological heritage sites, vibrant cultural life, breathtaking Mediterranean coastline, magnificent landscape, enormously diverse scenery, and lots more.

The country is bordered by the Black Sea, Georgia and Armenia at the northeast, Iran at the east, Iraq at the southeast, the Syrian Arab Republic and the Mediterranean at the south, the Aegean Sea at the west and Greece & Bulgaria at the northwest. Asia Minor (or Anatolia) accounts for 97% of the country’s area and forms a long, wide peninsula of 1,650km (1,025 miles) from east to west and 650km (400 miles) from north to south.
