Gazette printing office
Theme areas or neighborhoods in Ontario picture - This represents a small commercial printing shop that also published a weekly newspaper back in the 1860s. Printing actually began in Upper Canada in 1793, with the naming of a Kings Printer and publishing of the official Upper Canada Gazette, from Niagara-on-the-Lake. Printing plates were prepared by hand by typesetters, using lead or sometimes wooden letters stored in two wooden cases the lower one for ordinary letters, and the upper one for capitals. Now you know the origin of the terms UPPER CASE and lower case.
