Latriana - something interesting Sightseeing in Turkey picture - The public latrines were built at Ephesus in the 1st century A.D. The toilet seats were built side by side without any partition in between, on a marble bench. There is a trench which is about 8 feet deep underneath the holes & used to be filled with water. The slaves had to go down there & do the cleaning / washing from time to time. It seems that it was a common meeting place for men in the Roman Empire. Today, I am sure it will be undoubtedly the oldest "throne" your backside will ever experience if you plant yourself on one of those holes :-)
