This region, with 1173Km2, is situated at the heart of the vast *alentejana* plain, that constitutes the basic unit of the southern part of Portugal. Due to its topography it is sufficiently poor in water. Beja (City) is situated in the vestigial mount *gabro*, it raises 277 meters and it can be considered the center of the plain.
