Paola took me to the village about 20 minutes’ drive from Realmonte. It is a village she likes most, and where her aunt lives. Siculiana got its name from this Castle; Castello de Chiaramonte. It sits on the top of the hill and was built during Arab times. Not until early 14th century when Federico Chiaramonte had it reconstructed to its present splendor. There is a museum with artifacts and stories of the castle, many rooms are preserved and still be seen: a former banquet room, stables, kitchen, jails and also a church. The ... (more)
