The controversial 'Fountain of Neptune',
Sightseeing in Florence picture - also in the piazza, is one of Florence's favorite sculptures to hate. It was designed by Ammannati who later repented for designing Neptune in the nude. In the background on the left is the bronze equestrian statue of Cosimo I (1519 1574). He was Duke of Florence from 1537 to 1574, reigning as the first Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1569.
