The Vasari Corridor runs above the shops
Sightseeing in Florence picture - Once home to butchers, the bridge was cleared of these 'vile arts' by the Medicis to give way to goldsmiths & jewelers who have been there ever since. Today, the bridge, which is closed to vehicular traffic, is on every visitor's itinerary & is one of the most congested parts of the city. The Vasari Corridor runs the length of the bridge above the shops & along both sides of the street. [This overhead covered walkway, almost 1km long, was built in 1564 to get royalty from one place to another on both sides of the bridge.
