Anitkabir sits atop a hill, overlooking the city of Ankara. The architects are Prof Emin Onat & Asst. Prof Orhan Arda, the winners in the competition among the total of 49 international proposals, for a "monumental mausoleum" for Atatürk held by the Turkish Government in 1941. The mausoleum was completed in 1953 & Atatürk was buried there in Nov 1953.
