which has been converted to a Christian church - Santa Maria sopra Minerva (St. Mary over Minerva), & the Tower of the People beside the temple, are also in the piazza. There's also an 18th century fountain. (Please see the introductory text for more information about the temple & church.) The Tower of the People was built during the last half of the 13th century. Because it was built in several stages, the top floor was not completed until 1305, thats why it looks different. The clock was mounted during the middle of the 15th century. In the past, the tower housed the City Land Registry & the Board of Notaries. In 1926, the Bell of Lauds was installed. The bell, which weighs 4000 kgs, was donated to the city of Assisi by the Communes of Italy & the Canticle of Brother Sun is inscribed on it.
