<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> The Great Theater<br> Sightseeing in Italy picture - is the larger of two theaters they found in the buried city. It was originally built in 5 BC in a location which took advantage of the natural slope of the land to create the tiers of seats, much like an amphitheater. It was mostly rebuilt during the Greek period, then rebuilt again by the Romans in the 1st century AD. The open-air theater could hold 5000 spectators, many of them bloodthirsty as they screamed for death in the battles between wild animals &#38; the gladiators. The stage was on the left. They did have non-violent events here too, it seems. </div></nolayer></noembed>
