<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> Plaster casts of victims<br> Sightseeing in Italy picture - During early excavations of the site, occasional voids in the ash layer were found that contained human remains. A technique was then devised to inject plaster into the spaces left by the decomposed bodies to perfectly recreate the forms of the volcano&#146;s victims. What resulted were highly accurate &#38; eerie forms of the doomed Pompeiani who failed to escape, in their last moment of life, with the expression of terror often quite clearly visible. (I think most of the mummies have been moved to museums.) This technique is still in use today, with resin now used instead of plaster because it is more durable. </div></nolayer></noembed>
