The atrium, the first courtyard a visitor sees when entering the villa, is located between the entrance arch, the latrine, the thermal baths & the tablinum (reception area) leading to the center of the villa. There’s a portico with ionic columns on 3 sides of the atrium, & the entrance arch is on the 4th side. There is supposed to be 3 fountains in this area but I didn’t see them. When the patron of the villa received his clients, the less important ones would wait their turn in the atrium.
