New Mexico picture - Perigrenes and other birds of prey hunt by soaring above the land, detecting even slight movements of their prey with their keen eyesight. This bird is trained to hone in on a captive pigeon that is on a lead and that the handler displays briefly when he wants the bird to make an approach. Then, by hiding the pigeon at the last moment, the bird flys past at very low level (I felt the wind from its wings on my cheek a couple of times) and then soars back into the sky.
