About 50 miles west of Socorro, the Very Large Array, sits in a huge high-desert valley. Established in the middle of the last century, it is the largest radio telescope in the world. These antennae, stretching into the distance, are only a small part of the array. The first Director of the site was one of the experts in our seminar and recieved a fair amount of jsohing on the order of "OK, but what does it REALLY do?".
