CHURCHES - San Pancrazio Church Sightseeing in Sicily picture - This Baroque 16th century church is located outside the city walls, just beyond Messina Gate. The church was built over the ruins of a Greek temple that was dedicated to Zeus. One of the walls of the temple is incorporated into the southern wall of the church. The church is dedicated to San Pancrazio, a Bishop & martyr, & the patron saint of Taormina. Apparently, the interior (which I didnt see) is filled with multi-colored marble & Taormina stone (which is marble-like), & contains an important fresco depicting the martyrdom of San Pancrazio. The church is often closed to the public. I have not been able to identify those ruins across the street from the church. Maybe they belonged to the Greek temple?
