The theater was likely able to seat
Sightseeing in Sicily picture - about 5,400 spectators. Although the Greek theater plan would have had a semi-circular orchestra section, the Romans later removed the lower tier of steps & converted the orchestra into a circular arena, a shape better suited to hosting circus games. They also added a corridor to provide access for the gladiators & wild animals. So, because of the mix of styles, the theater should rightly be called a Greco-Roman Theater?
