It's told that Man Singh worshiped Kali for a victory over the rouler of Bengal, and that the goddess asked him to recover a statue of her at that region and set it in a suitable place. The Raja did it and built a temple dedicated to Kali to hold the statue, and the palace grew then around the temple.
