<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> Palazzo Corvaja,<br> Sightseeing in Sicily picture - one of Taormina&#39;s important historical landmarks, began as a Moorish defence tower at the town&#39;s northern gate. Because it was built &#38; extended in different eras, the current structure is a mixture of 3 styles- Moorish, Norman, &#38; Gothic. The Moorish tower, with battlements, was built by the Arabs to reinforce the city&#39;s defences during their period of rule in Taormina (902 to 1079). The 14th century wing on the left is Gothic, &#38; the 15th century wing on the right , where the Sicilian Parliament meetings were held, is in Norman style. It was restored after WWII after falling into a pitiful state of neglect. It was enlarged again in 1960 &#38; is now occupied by the Sicilian Tourist Authority &#38; the Sicilian Museum of Art &#38; Folk Traditions. The Palazzo is named after the Corvaja family, one of the oldest and most noble families in Taormina. </div></nolayer></noembed>
