(chiesa = church), which was once known as Chiesa San Nicolo, was built in the 14th century & resembles a fortress. It was originally annexed to a Dominican friar convent that collapsed in a landslide in 1880. There's a 16th century bust of St Lucy over the main door, & above it, the carved oculus with Savoca’s Coat of Arms featuring a branch from an elderberry plant for which the village is named. This is the church front in the GF1 movie. Although you see very little of the church in the movie, you can take the same walk that Michael & Apollonia took after the wedding, along with family & friends, down the hill to the Bar Vitelli to celebrate ;o)
