was formed in 1926 to provide an Italian company to compete with Shell & Esso, which dominated fuel distribution in Italy at that time. By 1939 it was one of the 3 leading brands in Italy. In 1953 it was incorporated into the state owned ENI group, & they expanded & moved into Germany, Switzerland, Austria, the UK & France. Since 1990, ENI has been progressively privatised & has further expanded into Southern & Eastern Europe, ie Spain, the Czech Republic & Romania.
