It has always been a trading city. The main mode of transport between the two has always been ferries, which currently use the mainland port of Reggio di Calabria. A bridge has been considered but that idea has been discarded because of the fragile nature of the coastline &#38; erosion problems. Besides, the ferry companies would have a hissy fit ;o) </div></nolayer></noembed>
