This well preserved structure, which looks like a small domed Mosque from the outside, was built around 1450 & is located next to the cathedral bell tower, just off Piazza Tasso. This is where the city fathers (lords & aristocrats) gathered to make laws & decide on economic & administrative matters, sort of like an ancient city hall? It is the only one of its kind left in Campania. Today the local men of the town use the place to drink coffee, play cards, & exchange gossip. These columns & arches aren’t real, they’re ancient frescoes. The city coat of arms as well as those of the various families of the Sorrento aristocracy are also displayed. The 17th century dome on the outside is covered with green & yellow majolica tiles.
