I liked this potbellied clock
Sightseeing in The Amalfi Coast picture - & the finely carved clock on the right. Sorrento has been famous for its inlaid woodwork (aka marquetry) for many years. Even as far back as the 16th century, master carpenters from Sorrento were making inlaid wood choir boxes for Neapolitan churches & furniture for the noble palaces. But the industry really began to grow in importance at the beginning of the last century. This is due to Sorrentine cabinetmaker, Antonio Damora, who was summoned to Naples in 1825 to restore the furniture in the Royal Palace. When he returned to Sorrento, he taught his colleagues what he had learnt during his experience in Naples, & soon, numerous cabinetmakers opened shops around the old town center, & the rest, as they say, is history. Today, marquetry constitutes one of the mainstays of the local economy.
