St. Teresa of Avila
Sightseeing in The Amalfi Coast picture - (aka St Teresa of Jesus), considered the greatest woman in Spanish history, was a Spanish Carmelite nun & mystic who is best known as the reformer of the Carmelite order & founder of the Barefoot Carmelites. She was born in Avila, Spain in 1515 & died in 1582 at age 67. She founded many new convents & left a significant legacy of writings including an autobiography. She is usually portrayed in a Carmelite nuns habit holding flowers & a crucifix. A movie of her life "Teresa de Jesus" was made in Spain in 2006.
