aka Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine, is dedicated to Our Lady of Caramel & the cult of the Dark Madonna. It has a dominant position in Piazza Tasso. It was built in 1572 outside the old city walls, over an earlier church that was dedicated to Sorrento’s early martyrs, by the Carmelite Fathers of Carmine Maggiore from Naples. A chapel dedicated to those early martyrs was inaugurated in the church in 1944. [To fix this this photo, which was taken in bad light, I used 'hue variation'.]
