The distinctive Cathedral bell tower.
Sightseeing in The Amalfi Coast picture - The cathedral itself is the barely-visible white structure at the end of this row. Located at the end of via Pietà on Corso Italia, the cathedral is one of the city's most important landmarks, despite its relatively unassuming & understated architecture. The cathedral is part of a complex that houses the Bishop. The church was built in the 11th century, reconstructed in the 15th century & restored several times. The Gothic facade was added in 1924, but the Renaissance marble portal was left alone. The interior is famous for its inlaid woodworks & marvelous frescos by Neapolitan painters. Theres also a marble archbishops throne from 1573. Sorrentos famous poet, Torquato Tasso, was baptized in the baptistery.
