Most of these photos are from the old capital city of Saudi Arabia-Diryiah. I visited this village many times during my stay in Riyadh and found this historical site extremely interesting; I wish I had been more into photography at that time. There were still many people living in the village (1976-1980) and living a simple, traditional life of farming and herding. I found the Saudi people in this area to be warm and friendly and we were invited into a home in Diriyah during one of our visits. We sat on carpets on an earthen floor and were served wonderful coffee and tea.

We were very impressed with the Saudi people during our eight year there. They had a tremendous talent for languages, it was not at all uncommon for me to go into a shop in Riyadh and find a store owner switching around from Arabic, to english, to Korean, and French. We often received great courtesy and kindness and people willing to go way out of their way to help us.

The development of Saudi Arabia during our stay there was absolutely miraculous. The Saudi government put in modern utility systems, new schools, hospitals, roads, etc. at a rate that probably has not been duplicated at any other time in modern history. They invested in providing high quality education to their young students all over the world. They would pay for all of their school expense, transportation and even help out the family back in Saudi Arabia with expenses to compensate for their child being away in a foreign country.

I will always remember Saudi Arabia and its people with great respect and fondness.
