on the Isle of Capri. When coming to Capri, you dock at the unremarkable Marina Grande, the port area. The commercial port was built in 1928 as an extension of a small pre-existing reef. Before that, ferries dropped anchor in the bay & passengers & goods were transported back & forth to shore by fishermen & their boats. Cruise ships still use that system today, except they use tenders.
