<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> The Church of the Transfiguration . . .<br> Sightseeing in Russia picture - . . . our Savior. was built on the orders of tsar Peter the Great to celebrate his forces&#39; victory over the Swedes. And, considering the 22 onion-shaped domes which give it its amazingly playful look, it certainly suggests a mood of celebration. The wooden structure of this summer church, is octagonal creating a very large inner space. The roof and the domes are covered with aspen shingles. Wood that could be easily shaped (by experts anyway) with a handaxe and which did not warp under the influence of sun, rain or ice. Beyond that, its weathered silvery colour nicely answers and holds its own against the golden domes which can be found on the churches of richer communities. </div></nolayer></noembed>
