The five-story Panch Mahal, as seen from behind the treasury building. Fatehpur Sikri is a ghost town that was originally built by Emporor Akbar as the capital of the Moghul empire for 14 years in the late 16th century. It was abandoned due to problems with the water. There are four separate palaces in this small city--one for Akbar, one for his Muslim wife, one for his Christian wife, and one for his Hindu wife, Jodhabai, whose relationship with the emperor was recently depicited in the Bollywood film, Jodhaa Akbar.
