Cheon Gye Cheon stream. This stream which had always existed, was very recently restored by the mayor of Seoul who is now president. During South Korea's economic boom during the 1960s-1970s, a highway was built over this stream in the rush to modernize and rebuild the capital. Until this stream was restored, this area was a highly congested and aesthetically displeasing area of town. But thanks to the mayor's efforts, it has become a highly successful and popular project and now serves as a park right in the middle of downtown Seoul!
