Louvre Museum
Sightseeing in Paris picture - High-relief sculpture on a wall outside an exhibit about the history of the Louvre, located on the ground floor of the museum. Originally constructed as a fortress in the 12th century, the Louvre expanded to become location of the royal treasury and then, in the 14th century, the site of the Royal Palace. It remained the primary royal residence until 1682, when King Louis XIV moved the primary residence to Versailles. The Louvre was officially designated a museum in 1793.
