For Christmas Julian had received a spinnaker for NO CATCH-UP. On this particular day, we had a following breeze. Could he, he asked, please sail the tender to Little Current using his spinnaker for the first time. The distance yet to be sailed was some 15 nautical miles, a fair distance in such a little boat. Still, TALARIA would stay close by and there seemed to be no reason not to let him. As soon as Andrea realized what was going on, she too wanted to sail with her brother. Butthe answer, I felt had to be "No." If Julian should get himself into any kind of trouble, I might need a second person capable of steering TALARIA, and she was certainly be the person for the job. I explained my reasoning to her and though she was disappointed, she seemed to understand. Disappointed, I think, but also pleased to find me needing her help, she accepted the decision without objection.
