The Many Faces of Israel and Jordan is an introduction to pictures from a 14-day Elderhostel program in Israel and a 5-day extension to Jordan in March and April 2008. In Israel six nights were spent in Jerusalem; one night on the edge of the Dead Sea; three nights in a kibbutz in the Lower Galilee region; three nights in Tel Aviv. In Jordan two nights were spent in Amman; two nights in Petra; one night in Amman.

Elderhostel described “The Land of Israel: Past, Present, and Future: A Journey of Discovery as “King David swam here; Herod the Great sought its healing waters, too. Farmers used its minerals as fertilizer and the Egyptians used it in their balms for mummification. As you float in the Dead Sea, consider the multi-cultural cradle of this region, birthplace of Christianity, Judaism and Islam. With local experts and scholars to guide you, discover the holy sites, the toric vestiges and modern life of Israel and learn how the past informs the nation’s present and future.”

Elderhostel’s description of “Key’s to The Kingdom: Jordan’s Treasures” is “with awe-inspiring archaeological wonders 9,000 years old, Jordan is a country rich in history, tradition and heritage of the Nabatean, Roman, Christian and Muslim cultures. Embark on the sacred journey in Jordan’s capital city of Amman and move onward to Petra to immense yourself in the enchantment and mystery that has shaped this storied land.”

Elderhostel continues to offer programs in these countries but with slightly different itineraries and program titles.

I will be publishing a series of articles relating to this adventure which will be available through my homepage: http://www.worldisround.com/home/jdtan/index.html
