<noembed><nolayer><div style="position:absolute; left:0; top:-100; display:none;"> lighthouse with pavilion<br> Georgia picture - It was built on the site of a British fort once captured by the Spanish. Its predecessor was built in 1810, but destroyed during the Civil War. The current one was built in 1872, along with the lighthouse keeper&#146;s house. The Coast Guard manned it from 1937 &#150; 1995. Today it is home to the Saint Simons Lighthouse Museum and a heritage site, operated by the Coastal Georgia Historical Society. Visitors can still climb the 129 steps to the top. I did &#133; puff! puff! </div></nolayer></noembed>
