Also from 1943 &#150; 1958, the US Navy&#146;s main patrol blimps operated from the air station there, and escorted nearly 100,000 ships along the coast without a single loss to enemy submarines. To the left is the Sidney Lanier bridge, named after the poet who wrote about the Marshes of Glynn. </div></nolayer></noembed>
