toward the mainland
Georgia picture - Straight ahead is the mainland town of Brunswick, where 99 Liberty Ships (freighters) were built during WWII. Also from 1943 1958, the US Navys main patrol blimps operated from the air station there, and escorted nearly 100,000 ships along the coast without a single loss to enemy submarines. To the left is the Sidney Lanier bridge, named after the poet who wrote about the Marshes of Glynn.
