We hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu late March 2009. Technically the rainy season, we had sunny days for our hike with rains every night. The temperature was pleasant and the flowers were in bloom.
The trail closes in Feb. every year to let it "rest", but the campsite bathrooms were filthy and the trekkers lodge (the last place camping is allowed on the trail before Machu Pichu) was crowed and smelly.
It was a trip I would recommend to everyone. Pictures don't do it justice.
