In 2007 my husband and I departed on our honeymoon to Italy. After a while in any place we get itchy feet so we decided to take in three of Italy's most popular cities, Florence, Venice and concluding in Rome, staying for a few days in each. All three were wonderfully beautiful whilst also being so different in many ways. Florence was rich in history and architecture, the art almost seeps out into the cobbled streets and piazzas and you absorb it rather than seek it out. Venice was, in my personal opinion, the most romantic of the three. After the initial novelty of initiating travel and getting around on the water, you start to follow the flow of the tide and have no choice but to go at the dictated pace. You are completely at mercy to it; however it goes hand in hand with the company you keep as you travel along any of the canals. On either side the magnificent buildings and mansions tower over you as if they would like to just lean down and whisper to you the stories of what they have witnessed in all those years since their creation. You can feel that there are so many tales to be told as you loose yourself in the winding backstreets and alleyways. Rome is ancient, you can see evidence of this wherever you are in the city and I don’t just mean the odd Roman soldier wondering about looking for his next photo opportunity. Rome has its roots in a time when it was the biggest power in the ancient world and you are left in no doubt of this when you are walking through the ruins that still hold the spirit of their time looked up in their magnificence.
