I went to Peru in August of last year. I met some friends who live there and I had a great time. The weather was cooler at that time of year than the hot/humid climate of SC in August. Lima is the City of the Kings. In many ways it is similar to cities in Europe. It has large squares and older buildings. They have a changing of the guards daily at the Presidential palace. In this area they have hightened security because of the number of protests. They have the water cannon vehicles parked and ready. While I was there, the President Toledo came out to meet with some school children and the children were very exited. The drive to Paracas is about 4 hours or so. Paracas is in desert country that runs parallel to the Pacific Ocean. On the way there are some beautiful farms. In the climate there at the time, fresh strawberries were growing. I stopped and the native people were very friendly and gave me a large sack full and wanted no money! From there we traveled on to Paracas and across the desert to the sea. It is absolutley breath taking. The sea is wonderful. The cliffs are magnificient. Also you can see hundreds of seals in their natural beauty. I enjoyed this very much. I want to return some day.
