The only monarch butterfly I saw up close in the Chincoá Reservation. Very disappointing - a father was carrying it and he placed it on top of the flower of this wild thistle to show his daughter. I asked if he minded if I took a photo and he said to go ahead. Only when I got home and looked at the photo closely did I notice that the poor thing had died.
