This 'airport', which really is only an airfield, serves the northern Lao province of Xieng Khouang & it's nearby capital of Phonsavan. [Xiang Khouang (jyang kwang) may refer to Xiangkhuoang Province, Xiangkhouang Plateau, or Xiengkhouang Airport.] Tourists mainly come here to view the famous 'Plain of Jars', an extensive area that has been nominated as a UNESCO heritage site. (This area will be featured in a separate journal.) The torturous but scenic trip can be done by road - it's a 9-hour bus trip from Vientiane, or an 8-hour bus ride from Lunang Prabang farther north. As the crow flies, it's only 168 kms to Vientiane or 142 kms to Luang Prabang.
