(Monastery of the Golden City) is regarded as the most beautiful & exquisite temple in all of Laos. Built in 1560 by King Setthathirath, its gracefully sloping roof & glass murals exemplifies the classical Luang Prabang style of temple architecture, & presents many photographic opportunities. Wat Xieng Thong was the principal wat in Luang Prabang. This is where the kings were crowned & the wat was patronized by the monarchy right up to 1975 when the monarchy was dissolved.
