The small riverside town of Vang Vieng, population about 25,000, is located in located on Highway 13 between Luang Prabang (6-8 hours) & Vientiane (3-4 hours). At one time it was no more than a bus changing station on the long haul between Vientiane at the Thai border & the World Heritage Site of Luang Prabang, but because of its dramatic scenery, it has managed to become a destination in its own right.
