Every dog has its day, and in Dana Point it happens every April. Our normally quiet harbor erupts with activity as thousands of dogs and their owners get together for the 16th annual Pet Project Foundation's Wag-A-Thon.

The 2009 event featured a dog walk-around the harbor, and contests involving best pet tricks and best costumes. There was a Bowzer Bazaar with more than 50 different Orange County vendors.

This is a fund raising event for the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter whose mission is to care for animals until they are found safe and loving homes, no matter how long that may take. These fortunate animals are never terminated.

There are many wonderful volunteers at the animal shelter. Just one of them is our good friend Paula Becker who has worked in the cat room every week for the past 14 years. She coordinates the trapping and neutering and releasing of feral cats, many of which are found in the Dana Point Harbor. There's a lot of tender loving care at the animal shelter!
