BANTEAY SREI - at the entrance
Sightseeing in Siem Reap/Angkor picture - Not much is left of the surrounding wall. The temple is known for the beauty of its sandstone lintels & pediments (the roughly triangular space above a doorway or openings). At Banteay Srei, the pediments are relatively large in comparison to the openings below, & take a sweeping gabled shape, like this one. So for the first time in the history of Khmer architecture, whole scenes of mythological subject-matter could be depicted on the pediments. (Red sandstone can be carved like wood.)
