The best day trips are supposed to be the full-day options that take you to far-flung floating villages like Kampong Phluk, in canoes, among low mangroves, or to a lush bird sanctuary, called Preak Toal, using the larger tour operators. These come with a hefty price but they claim it's worth it. These trips are best in rainy season because the mangrove swamps are dried up at other times. (It was dry season when we were there.)
